Jatinder Taneja, Vice Chairman, PATA India, says Indian tourism and travel sector is on a fast moving and growth-oriented trajectory. India's investments in building a strong MICE platform and establishing the country as the global centre for yoga and Ayurveda wellness has added new dimensions and offerings to enhance the uniqueness of Incredible India. What after SEIS denial?

What after SEIS denial?

June 2023 - Biggest setback
Calling it one of the biggest set-backs for the industry, Jatinder Taneja, Vice Chairman, PATA India Chapter, says that the incentive has not been reinstated so far. “SEIS or similar incentive schemes have been going on to support inbound tourism for the last many years in the form of EPCG, SFIS and SEIS forms. This incentive has been helping the industry immensely to stay competitive in the international market and generate better business and earn much more foreign exchange for the country. In the absence of any incentive scheme, the product in India will become more expensive and inbound business would surely suffer,” he adds.

Budget recognises tourism value

Budget recognises tourism value

February 2023 - I was satisfied to see that both international and domestic tourism sectors were mentioned by the Finance Minister in the Union Budget this time. Her mentioning to select 50 destinations, which will be developed as a complete package for tourism; focus on guides; security of tourists and a huge outlay for Railways; overall are very positive signs for the growth of tourism in India. I would also like to say that the infusion of `9,000 crores in the corpus of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to offer collateral free loans will help the tourism sector as well. Currently, tourism sector is drawing attention from the highest level in the government, which will help the industry to grow in the coming years.

2023: No time to relax

2023: No time to relax

January 2023 - There will be a lot of focus on India as a prime tourism destination in 2023. The G20 meetings, Visit India Year, establishment of the National Tourism Board and other initiatives by the Government of India will contribute significantly to bring India into focus as a premier tourist destination. With COVID paling into the past, we expect the trade to become significantly more active towards promotion of India in key international source markets. We will continue our thrust on educating our members through our two webinar products Jewels of India & Believe It or Not. Additionally,
we will work with MOT to conduct result-oriented roadshows to key source markets. We are already working with a state government to conduct an exclusive roadshow for them to four overseas markets in Q1/Q3, 2023. We intend to revive our annual industry-wide meeting tourism PowerHouse.
