Giza

Giza Nestled on the west banks of River Nile is the Giza Plateau, which is just opposite the city of Cairo. At a distance of about 8 km from Abu Rawash and about 17 km from Saqqara, the Plateau of Giza is well known for Memphis, the most popular tourist attraction in the extreme north. Giza is also popular for its oldest tomb or mastaba, the history of which can be dated back to First Dynasty. The Three Pyramids are some of the other tourist attractions here.

Great Pyramid
The Great Pyramid of Khufu (Cheops) is a significant existing monument, which was listed in the Seven Wonders of the World. It took around twenty years to complete this construction of this monument. In fact, 2 millions of limestone blocks, weighing about 2 tons each, were used to build this structure. King's burial chamber occupies the central position of the monument, which can be accessed by the Great Gallery. The main entrance lies to the north of the Great Pyramid.

The oldest manmade monuments, the Pyramids have been in existence for about 53 centuries. These are even the tallest edifices built across the countries, about 145.75 m high. Besides tombs, the Pyramids were also used to bury the emperors and aristocrats from where they began their after-life journey.

The Sphinx
The Abu-al-Hol or the Father of Terror is popularly known as the Sphinx worldwide. It lies just in front of the Great Pyramid. Strangely, the Sphinx resembles Emperor Kephren and has the face of a human being and the body of a lion.

Solar Boat Museum
Discovered during the year 1954, Solar Boat Museum is built on the pit where these boats were found. This museum has the facility of controlling the temperature in order to preserve the boat. The main purpose of these boats was to ferry the body of Khufu across River Nile to the Funerary Temple, where the funeral ceremony was to be performed. Around the Pyramid of Khufu, about 5 Solar Boats were discovered.
