Bangkok

Hotels in Thailand Bangkok, or the "City of the Angels", was established on the banks of the Chao Phraya in 1782. This bustling capital of Thailand is famous for its Grand Palace, its many Buddhist temples and a bustling nightlife probably unrivaled in the world. The city has harmoniously blended its traditional Buddhist lifestyle with western influences, and the result is the tall skyscrapers along the Chao Phraya that exist side by side with old Buddhist temples.

The Grand Palace is located inside a huge walled compound in the heart of the city. it sprawls over an area of 1.5 square kilometers. The Chakri Maha Prasad is modeled on ancient Thai architectural principles based on spires and is heavily influenced by western architectural styles. The Grand Palace also houses a small Buddhist shrine and a museum showcasing artifacts found on the Palace premises. The Vimanmek Palace is made of the Thai golden teak and was moved to its present location in Bangkok almost 100 years back.

Bangkok also houses a number of Buddhist temples and shrines. The Temple of the Emerald Buddha, or the Wat Phra Kaeo, is more than two centuries old. It has numerous tall golden spires, and the famed statue of the Emerald Buddha sits on a high platform, sheltered by ornamented canopies. You can also visit the Wa Pho Temple, The temple of the Golden Buddha and the Golden Mount temple if you want to see the marvelous Thai Buddhist architecture dating back to at least 300 years.
