Rock Climbing
 Rock Climbing is quite prevalent in India, nowadays. It is not very difficult to define Rock Climbing. Different people have different versions. To some it is a challenge of their spirits while to others it is exploring some new heights, giving a bounce to their unbounded imaginations. However, to professional rock climbers, it is not a sport. It is some kind of advanced adventure. To many others it is an adventure of the greatest magnitude, a fight against self and against the elements. The ultimate goal for rock climbers is to reach the summit and return back safe and sound. Rock climbing is a test of strength, concentration and coordination. It requires special skill and technique. It needs a lot of experience. Mount Abu and Sariska in Rajasthan also offer a wide variety of rock faces and excellent grounds for rock climbing. There are areas even in the rocks at Sonmarg in the State of Jammu and Kashmir and Gangotri in the Garwal district of Uttar Pradesh.
Rock Climbing as an adventure sports originated in the United Kingdom in the 1960s. Its popularity grew from then on and soon it became very popular in India. Rock Climbing in all its forms tests the strength, balance, concentration, stamina, coordination, skills and techniques of the climber. The basic difference between Mountaineering and Rock Climbing is that of snow and rough weather.
While rock climbing one will find that the rocks are quite flat. One has to make ways in the rock using vertical, horizontal and slanting cracks on the rock surface to reach to the summit. The only help are the usage of hands, feet and rope. A slight mistake can lead to an accident. One can fall down and that adds to the thrill of the game. There are certain types of Rock Climbing namely, Rock Climbing Bouldering, Sport Climbing, Peak Bagging, Free Soloing, Expedition Climbing, Crag Climbing, Wall Climbing and Alpinism.
India offers tremendous opportunities for rock climbers. There is an equal distribution of rock climbing destinations all across India. This has added to its popularity.
