Study Tour to Aurangabad from 21st to 23rd May 2025

Mr. Amarjeet Singh (Manager - Inbound Sales)

Dear All,

Like every year this year also the Management planned the Familiarization Trips to various destinations to get the maximum knowledge on sectors which have not been inspected in the past or there are no latest updates in terms of Destination, Hotels, Sightseeing and activities available since very long. Looking at the process I was given the task / opportunity to Explore Aurangabad from 21-23 May 2025 and update the sales and operations team so while working on the itinerary or the destination they have enough knowledge and updates.

Aurangabad (Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar)

The historic city of Aurangabad (now officially named as Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar) and also called a "CITY OF GATES" (around 56 Gates) is one of the top tourist destinations and known as the tourism capital of Maharashtra. The city is home of the UNESCO world heritage sites, Ajanta and Ellora Caves. The other important historical monuments are Bibi Ka Maqbara (Baby Taj) and the Daulatabad Fort.

The best time to visit the heritage city of Aurangabad is the winter season. It is ideal to explore its different ancient sites during the months of November to February, when the temperature varies between 10°C to 25°C. Summer and Monsoon seasons are very hot and humid and not a good time to explore the caves.

Ajanta Caves

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the most prominent site to visit when in Aurangabad. Located around 110 kms from the Aurangabad city, primarily Buddhist monasteries, dedicated to both Hinayana and Mahayana sect, Ajanta caves comprise 30 caves which have been carved out of rock. Dating back to the 2nd century, these caves not only offer rich religious significance but also a glimpse of the ancient architectural mastery.

  • The highway is under construction and the road condition is really bad for approx 08-10 Kms and it takes around 2.5 – 3 hrs one way depending on the traffic & Jam.
  • Suggest to leave latest by 6 am from the city as the opening hours are from 0900 hrs and closing time is 1800 hrs.
  • The Private vehicles are allowed only till the parking area and from there onward one has to take State Tourism buses till the Cave Entrance.

Ellora Caves

Located around 30 kms from the Aurangabad city, is another architectural wonder. Also a UNESCO World Heritage site, these caves were built during the reigns of Rashtrakuta, present a glimpse into the richness of Indian culture and workmanship in ancient times. Ellora represents the epitome of Indian rock-cut architecture. The 34 "caves", actually structures excavated out of the vertical face of the Charanandri hills, being Buddhist, Hindu and Jain rock-cut temples and monasteries, were built between the 5th and 10th centuries. They are renowned for their intricate sculptures, reliefs, and architectural marvels, particularly the Kailasa Temple (Cave 16), considered the largest single monolithic excavation in the world.

  • Golf Carts are available on payment basis as one has to cover quite a distance from one end to the other end to see the caves and some are at a distance of 1 km from one to another. If one is okay to walk then this cost can be saved but for elderly clients it is my recommendation to charge the same.

Bibi Ka Maqbara

Built by emperor Aurangzeb in 1661, in the memory of his wife Dilras Banu Begum, Bibi Ka Maqbara is a symbol of undying love. The architecture of this mausoleum is quite similar to Taj Mahal of Agra, both displaying fine craftsmanship and intricate design. Located in Begumpura (Old part of the city), it is open from 8 AM to 8 PM.

Daulatabad Fort

Located about 11 km from the city, Daulatabad Fort, also known as Deogiri Fort, impresses visitors with its imposing architecture. Standing at a height of 200 metres above sea level, this fort is known for its exceptionally strong defence. First built by Yadava monarch, Bhillama V, in 1187, this fort has been used by rulers of various reigns over the centuries. While exploring this fort, make sure to spend time at the Chini Mahal, Chand Minar, and Baradari.

  • This can be visited on the way to Or while returning from Ellora Cave.
  • One has to be physically capable and should be mentally prepared for an easy climb to reach upto the fort as it is located on a Rock and have to walk up to the fort.
  • I missed the visit to this Monument due to time shortage.

Grishneshwar Temple

Located in Ellora, Grishneshwar Temple is regarded as one of the twelve Jyotirlingas in India. This ancient temple is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, this jyotirlinga is built in the South Indian architectural style with five tiered Shikara and carved pillars. The red stone walls of the temple are carved with legends of Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu’s incarnations. At this temple, devotees are allowed to touch the Shiva Linga with bare hands.

  • I missed the visit to this temple due to time shortage.
