We were there on a weekend and it was extremely crowded. Now, to reach the temple entrance you have to walk for about ½ a KM and this walk is beautiful which starts from the fountain. On both sides, building facades have been converted into a heritage look, similar to a heritage walk. Earlier this approach used to be very dirty but now it has an amazing feel.
After reaching inside, it takes a long time in the queue to reach the main temple. It was very hot due to the July weather. However, once you are in the queue, there are a lot of fans and it is managed very well. It is better to stand on the water side to feel a little less claustrophobic.
Once you are inside the temple, on the ground floor you can spend only a few moments and are gently pushed to move. However, it is very important for everyone to visit the first floor and the rooftop. The temple from inside is extremely beautiful, with exquisite work and a very serene atmosphere. The workmanship is even better than many frescoes in the Shekhawati area. Clients must visit the first floor and rooftop.
The whole experience of doing parikrama, visiting the temple, and then visiting the langar hall and witnessing the community service is truly amazing. To avoid the rush, it is better to send clients on weekdays, not weekends.
We stayed here. This is not a luxury hotel but is now the best hotel in Amritsar, about 15 minutes drive from the Golden Temple. Rooms are spacious, food was very good, and the service was par excellence. Should be used for all upmarket clients. Good restaurant, good bar, spa, and pool.
This was earlier known as an ISTA Hotel. It is also a good hotel—very professional—but the lobby is small, and room and bathroom sizes are very small. It has a good restaurant, bar, pool, and spa. The price difference between Taj and Hyatt is big, so depending upon the budget, this is also a good hotel. 15 minutes from the temple.
This hotel is within walking distance of the temple in the old town. The location is very good for clients. However, the lobby is very loud and not very professional. The staff was okay.
Rooms were good and of acceptable 3–4 star standard. The restaurant looked okay, and it has a nice pool. Cannot be used for luxury upmarket clients.
This is a family-run heritage hotel, medium category. The building is nice, and the lobby is attractive with many antiques and old furniture. Rooms are spacious and neat. Bathrooms are old but okay. Overall, if someone is looking for a heritage property, this is a decent option—but only for medium category, not for luxury clients. The restaurant was okay. No pool. Spa was a little dark and average. These days, they are arranging some food trails, walks, and heritage walks. Details have been sent to the team for their reference.
This is just 2–3 minutes from the airport. A decent star hotel with a nice lobby, good rooms and bathrooms, good restaurant, bar, and nice pool area. We went there as our flight was delayed, and we waited at the lobby and had some food. It was decent and can be used for clients, but it is about 45 minutes from the old town/temple.
