Day 01: Kathmandu- Kodari- Zhangmu
You will arrive at Zhangmu from Kathmandu via Kodari on the Nepal Tibet border. From Kathmandu to Kodari, you will be driven in a jeep. On arrival at Kodari, you will need to trek for around 2 hours to reach the immigration office at Zhangmu. The original Zhangmu town was established around an old fortress. The fortress, though in ruins now, is still a splendid example of Tibetan architecture. It has seen a fierce battle between the Nepalese Gorkhas and Tibetans over its possession. After the immigration formalities are over, you will be driven to your hotel where you will relax for the remainder of the day.
Day 02: Zhangmu - Xegar
Xegar lies on the highest plateau in the world. In order to reach this town, you will need to cross two mountain passes. The majestic Himalayas tower over the landscape, its pinnacles piercing through the clouds. At Xegar, you will stay overnight at a hotel.
Day 03: Xegar- Xigatse
In order to reach Xigatse, you will need to drive through the Gyatsola Pass, at a height of 5,220 meters. Xigatse lies on the banks of the Yalunzangbu River. It is the second largest city of Tibet. After checking into your hotel, relax for the rest of the day.
Day 04: Xigatse- Gyantse
In the morning, visit the Tashilhumpu Monastery that houses the Panchen Lama. Then you will be driven to Gyantse, 90 kilometers from Xigatse. This town now quiet and rustic, was once a bustling trading post between India and Tibet. Apart from flat pastures surrounded by mountains, you will also see the ruins of a monastery complex. A trip to the Kumbum Stupa and Palkhor Monastery is also on the itinerary.
Day 05: Gyatse/ Lhasa
After breakfast, you will be taken to Lhasa after crossing the Karola Pass, at a height of 5000 meters above sea level. On the way, you will see the picturesque Yamdrok Lake, and watch the Yalunzangbu snaking down the plateaus and pastures. On arrival at Lhasa, overnight stay at hotel.
Day 06: Lhasa
The Jokhang Temple, in Old Lhasa, houses sacred relics. The Barkhor Market, surrounding the Jokhang, is crowded with bustling shops. The Potala Palace was once the spiritual and administrative center of Tibet. Till the 18th century, it was the permanent residence of the Dalai Lamas of Tibet.
Day 07: Lhasa
Today, you will be free to explore the town of Lhasa as you choose. Wander around the old town, visit the shops and monasteries, or just spend your time chatting with the locals.
Day 08: Departure to Kathmandu
At the end of your tour, you will be driven to the International Airport, from where you can take a flight to Kathmandu in Nepal.
