We were there on a weekend and it was extremely crowded. Now, to reach the temple entrance you have to walk for about ½ a KM and this walk is beautiful which starts from the fountain and on both sides building’s facades have been converted into a heritage look and it is similar to a heritage walk. Earlier this approach used to be very dirty but now it has an amazing feel. After reaching inside, It takes a long time in the queue to reach the main temple. It was very hot also due to July weather however, once you are in the Q, there are a lot fans and it is managed very well. It is better to stand on the water side so you feel a little less claustrophobic. Once you are inside the temple, On GF you can spend only a few moments and you are pushed to move however, for everyone is very important to visit the first floor and the roof top. The temple from inside is extremely beautiful, exquisite work and very serene. The workmanship is even better than many frescoes in Shekhavati area. The client must visit the FF and RT.
Whole experience of doing parikrama and visiting the temple, then visiting the langar hall and seeing the community service is an amazing experience. To avoid rush, better to send clients on the weekdays NOT on weekends.
About hotels,
Taj Swarna,
We stayed here, This is not a luxury hotel but now is the best hotel in Amritsar about 15 minutes drive from the Golden temple, Rooms are spacious, Food was very good and the service was par excellence. Should use for all upmarket clients. Good restaurant, Good bar, spa and pool etc.
Hyatt,
This earlier used to be a ISTA Hotel. It is also a good hotel, very professional but lobby is small and rooms and bathroom size is very small. Good restaurant/bar/pool and spa etc. I think the price difference between TAJ and Hyatt is big and therefore depending upon the budget this is also a good hotel. 15 minutes from the temple.
Ramada,
This hotel is at a walking distance from the temple in old town. Location is very good for the clients. However, the lobby is very very loud, not very professional. The staff was ok .
However, the rooms were good and that acceptable standard in ¾ star. The restaurant was looking okay, Nice pool they have. Can not use for luxury upmarket clients.
Ranjit Svassa,
This is actually a family run heritage hotel, Medium category. Building is nice and the lobby is attractive with many antiques and old furniture. Rooms are also spacious and neat. Bathrooms are old but okay. Overall, if someone is looking for a heritage property then it is a nice decent property but only for medium category NOT FOR LUXURY clients. Restaurant was ok. NO POOL, Spa was also little dark and okay okay. These days, they are arranging some food trails walks, heritage walk etc. Details have been sent to the team for their reference and action.
Radisson,
This is just 2/3 minutes from the airport. A decent star hotel with nice lobby, good rooms/bathrooms. Good restaurant and a bar and nice pool area etc. we went there as our flight was delayed and we waited at the lobby and had some food. It was decent and can be used for clients but about 45 minutes from the old town/temple..
