History of Jaipur

The history of Jaipur is unique and queer. Jaipur was founded in 1727 by Raja Jai Singh II, the Maharaja of the Kuchwaha Rajputs. The name of the city 'Jaipur' has two fold emphasis. 'Jai' denotes conquest and is also the first name of its maker that is Jai Singh ll. The city offers superlative forts, grandiose palaces, vivacious temples, multicolored bazaars, pulsating streets and many more. You can reach Jaipur by air. The city has daily flights to and from Delhi and Mumbai. It is well connected to Udaipur, Jodhpur, Ahmedabad, Jaisalmer, Aurangabad and Calcutta. The airport is only 20 kms. from the center of the city.

Train lines also connect the city to major cities of India. Therefore, you can travel to Jaipur by taking a train. From Delhi there is the Shatabdi Express, Intercity Express, The Pink City Express and Chetak Express. The Super Fast Express links Jaipur with Mumbai. Besides, you can definitely enjoy a ride in the 'Palace On Wheels' and 'The Royal Orient' from Delhi.

You can travel to Delhi and from there come to Jaipur by the roads also. There are frequent deluxe and luxurious air-conditioned buses from Delhi, Agra and several other cities of Rajasthan to Jaipur. The central bus stand is Sindhi Camp which is situated in the heart of the city.
